As a shaper Northshore's Jürgen Hönscheid has about 50 years of surfing experience and more than 40 years of windsurfing experience in his pocket. For a good part of this time he was a touring pro, competing in World Cup events. He has shaped thousands of boards, and developed many successful designs such as the early F2 Comet, Sunset, Starlit, Strato and Bullit boards.
He has worked with many well known shapers and for a few years has been a product tester for a big German windsurf mag. He is also the author of many articles on shaping and designing boards.
Northshore built the first sandwich construction sailboards under 5 kilos in 1991, and under 4 kilos with a sensational 3.85 kilos in 1996.
Innovation and Development at Northshore:
• Close contact with our clients and team-riders
• Following strict production protocol. With every board produced in the Northshore factory we monitor every step. The quality and quantity of the materials is precisely noted, and the board is weighed after each individual production step. Of course, all relevant design specification fall under this rigorous protocol ( measurements, rail shapes, bottom contours and so on).
• Northshore builds a wide range of boards: surfboards (shortboards, fish, funshapes, mals), windsurfboards (fish, sideshore, onshore, all-round wavebands, freeride, slalom, plus all the current sup and kitesurf board designs). This means that each board can be developed from a huge range of design knowledge and experience, the most appropriate features being incorporated in every one.
• With a small team and a limited production we can ensure that Northshore remains flexible and exclusive. This allows us to provide the very best service and equipment to our customers, right down to the smallest specification or detail.
Our success is built upon the word of mouth recommendations of our satisfied customers. We do not need to spent huge amounts on advertising and are able to put this budget back into the research and development of the product.
In this area the boards are built using the advanced vacuum sandwich construction. There are no compromises here only the best. The materials used, Innegra fibers, kevlar and carbon, Entropy plant-base epoxyresin used in a certain combination bring to the boards the best strength / weight ratio.
Every board goes through the vacuum process 4 times. For glueing heavy duty sandwich plates are used both top and bottom. During laminating stress area such as heels or mastbox can receive up to 4 layers of faded sandwich foam.
All outlines, bottom shapes such as concaves, rockerlines, rail shapes and so on are the result of long-time experience. These design features need to continue proving themselves to Jürgen and other Northshore riders not only in the strong conditions of Fuerteventura, but at beaches world-wide.
